Why get a monitor with a movement pad?

The under the mattress sensor pad provides extra peace of mind, in addition to the video and sound. The pad monitors movement across the entire surface of your baby’s mattress, detecting even the slightest of movements, and, more importantly, alerts you if your baby stops moving for more than 20 seconds. This system can help even the most nervous parents to relax.

The Angelcare movement monitor comes with different levels of sensitivity, so you can adjust it to your baby’s movement. It can take a little bit of time to get the settings right, and some false alarms can cause a little bit of panic to start off with.

A pendulum icon lets you know that the Motion Sensor is active.

IMPORTANT: The Sensor Pad can be used with most baby mattresses. However, it cannot be used with memory foam mattresses or mattresses with a hollow frame.

Does the movement pad monitor if my baby stops breathing?

It’s not officially stated in any documentation, but the sensor pad is so sensitive it should be able to detect your baby breathing. However, it’s important to note that this is not the primary purpose.

Ease of use

Set up can be a little fiddly, and with such high tech specs, technophobe parents could feel a little overwhelmed to start.
The camera can be a little hard to get in position, especially if the room is small. Some parents have noted that they’ve needed to buy an additional camera tripod to be able to angle the camera properly. This is a little disappointing when you consider the price of the Angelcare AC1100 baby monitor.

What customers say in reviews

  • Very high tech
  • The movement monitor is extremely sensitive, by far the best feature
  • Different sensitivity levels on the monitor
  • The touch screen parent unit is simple to use
  • Once set up, it’s easy to use
  • Night light is a nice
  • The movement monitor will work with spring, coir and standard hypo-allergenic foam mattresses in a standard cot or cot bed

  • If you have a small room, the position of the camera can make it difficult to capture the full cot
  • Quality of camera lets it down
  • Night mode quality not great on camera
  • Difficult to tilt/angle the camera
  • Camera is angled up by default
  • Expensive
  • Can take time to set up
  • Monitor needs to be on a flat base, difficult if your cot has a crease where it may fold in half

Final verdict

If you want peace of mind, a complete system like the Angelcare AC1100 really covers all bases. It can be so nerve wracking when you leave your baby to sleep alone, so being able to monitor movement and well as being able to see and hear your baby can really help nervous parents to relax.

However, with such a high price tag it’s difficult to look passed the fact that the camera quality isn’t the best, or the fact that the camera is difficult to position as it’s fixed in position on the baby unit. You can use a cheap flexible camera tripod, but for the price, you should really have to.

Overall, the Angelcare AC1100 Digital Video, Movement & Sound Baby Monitor is a great product and loved by parents, if you can get passed the video quality.
